Play: (360/PS3) Countering the Quarter's Heat

 

Playbook: SF, NYG, PIT

Play Used: SG Trips Bunch: Slants Slot Flat


Setup:

Step 1- Hot route the RB to stay in and block to the right
Step 2- Hot route the outside left WR to perform a streak


Now this is another shotgun formation that the Quarters defense does not line up well against. You can generally make these two simple adjustments to this play and quickly hike the ball.

When this is done, the TE running the flat route is wide open. Even if the defense lines up correctly, the WR running the drag across the middle of the field will pick his defender and either the drag or flat route will be wide open.


Next, we have the slant route moving from right to left over the middle of the field. This is a route I like to hit if the defense is keeping people deep on the left to stop my streak jet pack. If this is the case, the slant will be one on one which is an easy catch for the offense.

Since we kept the RB in to block, we can roll out slightly behind him to buy time against the blitz. This gives us time to hit the slant and streak routes.

Final Thoughts:

It is very important to have some quick reads in your offense and understand how to beat the popular blitzes of this game. A lot of people want to run their offense as a jetpack fest, which will get shut down if that is all they have on offense. This is just one way to beat these blitzes, but I figured I would show it because the key to this play is the routes. All play books have plays with flat,drag,and slant route combinations. Hit the lab and implement this into your offense! Take it from the Houston MC winner, you better be prepared to beat heat!

Playbook: Washington

Setup:

Step 1- Come out in I Form 3 WR- Curls
Step 2- Audible to Split Backs 3 WR- Slot Z Out
Step 3- Formation shift right
Step 4- Hit triangle (Y for xbox) and up
Step 5- Formation shift up
Step 6- Hit triangle (Y for xbox)and up
Step 6- Formation shift left
Step 7- Flip the play
Step 8- Smart route the right slot WR
Step 9- Streak both outside WR's

Reads:

1. Flats
2. Zig out (left slot WR)
3. Unbumpable crossing route (right slot WR)
4. Dual streak routes- deep threat

 

In the picture above, we get a good look at our routes developing. Our WR on the unbumpable crossing route is in position for the catch. Our zig out has also dusted the defensive coverage



This play contains routes that will beat both man and zone. If you are facing quick heat, look for the HB flat route or the unbumpable crossing route. The zig out route will destroy man coverage especially when you run it with a WR with high speed and awareness. The streak routes will beat man as well, but are especially deadly against zone coverage.

Final Thoughts:

We do not recommend forcing the unbumpable crossing route into zone coverage. Be especially aware of under neath hook zones when throwing this route!
